55-15 Grand Avenue

The project owned by RXR Realty and designed by Desimone Consulting Engineers (NYC) consists of a 1.2 million sf, four-story warehouse/distribution center, and parking/fleet storage building.

PROJECT VOIDED SLAB ACHIEVEMENTS:

  • Reduced weight on the foundation of the building by 35%.

  • Large spans for a flexible Warehouse/Distribution layout without beams kept overall height within Zoning limits.

  • Electrical conduits were imbedded within the slabs.

  • Auger piles were used as a result of poor soil conditions. The reduced dead load from voided slabs required a significantly lower load on the auger piles.

Cobiax Delivers!

The project site is bordered by Grand Avenue to the south, several one-story buildings to the east, the freight rail lines of NYA/LIRR to the north, and an existing one-story building to the west.

The cast-in-place concrete frame constructed by Cross Country Construction LLC (Elmsford, NY) relied on CobiaxUSA 16” CLS Voided Slabs spanning 47ft between columns. The use of voided slabs reduced the weight on the foundation by as much as 35% thus providing a more economical pile-bearing foundation system by reducing the number of piles required to support the building.
